whatthefact.info: This social media initiative to counter disinformation started as a fact quiz and has grown into a community with tens of thousands of followers. It’s now more important than ever.
A project that’s grown beyond itself
When we launched whatthefact.info, Donald Trump was still a reality TV actor and AI was the stuff of science fiction. In 2016, the Nemetschek Foundation commissioned us to create an interactive fact quiz ahead of the German general election to counter the growing spread of fake news. This assignment developed into much more than a single tool and is now a social media community with almost 50,000 followers on Instagram and Facebook and a six-digit regular reach. Right from the start, our mission has remained the same: strengthening media literacy, making misperceptions visible and educating through infographics, social media sliders and interview reels. In the age of Trump propaganda, algorithmic disinformation and AI-generated content, this project is more important than ever.
