Working for a better world

Nowadays, foundations and non-profits are among the most important players in driving social progress. We help them reach new target groups and make their impact visible.

Newly elected politicians are given a hundred days to make a difference. Board members are judged at quarterly intervals. Media and content creators see topic clicks in real time. But how can we solve the big problems of our day and age if we don’t think in a long-term, sustainable way?

What makes foundations unique

At Nansen & Piccard we’ve been working passionately with foundations and institutions for many years – because they think outside the box of what is possible. And not only dare to ask the big questions like how to protect democracy or how to we deal with climate change and the Anthropocene, but also sustainably work on these issues and drive them forward.

We advise foundations, institutions and other non-profits on content strategy, publications, reporting and digital products. We work collaboratively and at eye level. Many of our colleagues can point to a great deal of experience in scientific, cultural and social journalism. And we’ve got the specialist expertise to familiarize ourselves with complex topics – and enjoy it too.

Foundation work is communication

The days when foundations only published activity reports and press releases are long gone. In the 21st century, communication is an essential part of a foundation’s work. Because in the battle for attention you can only be convincing with exclusive content. Because foundations need to be visible and present in order to be perceived as credible players with the ability to act. Because target groups, partner organizations and potential employees want to know what goals you’re pursuing – and where you currently stand.

Our Foundation Report: “Mission and Communication”

Along with our project partners, we repeatedly come across similar questions in our strategy work: What do people out there think about foundations? What content are they interested in? And where do we stand?

As there was hardly any reliable data on this, Nansen & Piccard surveyed more than 2,000 people in Germany – with exciting results: Young people are more open to foundations than older people and terms such as “innovative” and “international” are mentioned more frequently than “elitist” or “conservative”. Lots of good reasons for courageous, open communication.

The Nansen & Piccard Foundation Report was presented at events organised by the Association of German Foundations. We look forward to your feedback!

Ahead of the field through depth and speed

In our work we often find that foundations and NPOs are reluctant to communicate confidently and actively. But why? After all, not everyone is aware of this sector’s strengths.

Exclusive time slot
Foundations are pioneers, the first to address issues. And they’ve got the staying power to keep at it when commercial media lose interest. This is both an obligation and an opportunity.

Exclusive access
The funding work foundations undertake gives them access to exciting protagonists and experts who have often never been interviewed before. A great asset in communication.

Exclusive know-how
Foundations often produce exclusive studies and reports – either independently or with project partners. These publications are not only relevant for press releases but should also shape the entire storytelling strategy.
