Of data and people

Our healthcare system is complex and dynamic, combining research, technology, care and nursing. Anyone working here needs orientation and clear messages. We ask questions, penetrate contexts, create comprehensibility. That’s how we turn complexity into knowledge that works.

The theme of our lives

Everyone has something to do with health – at work, as a patient, as a relative or a medically insured person. The healthcare system affects us all and is one of the main places where society becomes visible – in care, in research, in nursing. Healthcare is not an add-on, but a key pillar of our welfare system, a concrete expression of what modern societies promise: standing up for one another when one’s own life becomes vulnerable.

A prescription against complexity

The system that ensures we stay healthy is so complex few people really understand it. It’s about so many parallel factors: new cancer drugs and the question of how they work; the supply chains that make ventilators available; ways of relieving overburdened nursing staff; the right support for the chronically ill; and not only promoting healthcare on the continent of Africa, but also seeing its players as equal partners.

We help those who help

We delve deep – into any topic, no matter how complex. We ask experts the questions that matter and translate their answers so they’re understandable and relevant – whether it’s about the impact of new inhibitors or factors that make a healthcare system resilient. And we think beyond health in the context of the other major issues of our day and age. Together with our partners, we develop formats that show where and how health affects us all.

Not a normal job

Health is personal, political, scientific – and always existential. That’s precisely why this field needs stories that are clear, up-close and responsibly told.

Important voices
Everyday life in hospitals and laboratories is loud and chaotic. We tell stories about patients and doctors, scientists and nursing staff – so their perspectives are heard and become effective.

Important findings
Our scientific editorial team is experienced in complex studies and technical language. We translate research results into clear stories that provide orientation – without losing precision.

Setting the course
Healthcare policy shapes everyone’s lives. We explain the course that needs to be set to make healthcare, research and care fit for the future – and thus facilitate an informed debate.
