“We Bad-Good Fathers”: a personal contribution to the debate on role models, caring and the question of why true equality in everyday family life is still so difficult.
The myth of the new fathers
It’s surprisingly easy to be complimented as a father. Everyone from the greengrocer to the mother-in-law seems impressed when Tobias Moorstedt, co-founder of Nansen & Piccard, is seen looking after his children. But this positive feedback shows, above all, how low the expectations of fathers are, with women still doing most of the day-to-day caring.
In this contribution to the above debate, Tobias Moorstedt tells us in a self-critical and open way what really prevents men from living a more equal life. The book was well received by the German media and reviewed in Spiegel, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Zeit, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Stern, among others. The result is an analysis that shows that it’s not only women who suffer from the incompatibility of family and career, but also men who are trying to break out of their traditional roles.
