“Ten thousand years of sex”: a book about the history of human sexuality, told in one hundred episodes from many cultures since the Neolithic Age. From the invention of monogamy in the Neolithic period to the invention of Viagra.

A respectful history of sexuality
How do you tell the story of 10,000 years of human sexuality without slipping into clichés, stale humor or cultural simplifications? Our approach: curious, detailed, respectful. In a hundred episodes – from ancient Egypt to cyberspace – we open windows into different cultures and show how diverse people have lived lust, intimacy and identity.
We are interested in what is irritating and surprising: that older women had special freedoms among the Aztecs, why cunnilingus was frowned upon in ancient Rome and Emperor Tiberius ignored it, what space queer practices had historically. We bring out the details that bring history to life – and tell them without voyeurism or pathos, but with clarity and empathy.
We take the fact that the book has been called “feminist” as a compliment. And the fact that “Ten Thousand Years of Sex” has now been translated into three languages actually makes us a little proud.
