Foundations and non-profit organizations are among the most important players in social progress today. We help them reach new target groups and make their impact visible.

People who are newly elected to political office have exactly 100 days to make a difference. Board members receive their receipt at the end of the quarter. Media and creators see in real time which topics are clicked on. But how can we solve the big problems of our time if we can’t think long-term and sustainably?

The unique selling point of foundations

This is why we at Nansen & Piccard have been working passionately with foundations and institutions for years: because they think outside the box of what is possible. And not only dare to ask the big questions – how do we protect democracy? How do we deal with climate change and the Anthropocene? – but also work on these issues in a sustainable way and drive them forward.

We advise foundations, institutions and other non-profit organizations on content strategy, publications, reporting and digital products. We work collaboratively and on an equal footing. Many of our employees have experience in scientific, cultural and social journalism. We have specialist expertise and a desire to familiarize ourselves with complex topics.

Foundation work is communication

The days when foundations only published activity reports and press releases are over. In the 21st century, communication is an essential part of the foundation’s work. Because in the battle for attention, you can only be convincing with exclusive content. Because foundations need to be visible and present in order to be perceived as credible and capable of taking action. Because target groups, partner organizations and potential employees today want to know what goals are being pursued – and where you currently stand.

Foundation report “Mission and communication”

Together with our project partners, we repeatedly come across similar questions in our strategy work: What do people “out there” think about foundations? What content are they interested in? And where do we stand?

As there was hardly any reliable data on this, Nansen & Piccard surveyed more than 2,000 people in Germany – with exciting results: Young people are more open to foundations than older people. Terms such as “innovative” and “international” are mentioned more frequently than “elitist” or “conservative”. Many good reasons for courageous, open communication.

The Nansen & Piccard Foundation Report was presented at events organized by the Association of German Foundations. We look forward to your feedback!

In our work, we often find that foundations and NPOs are reluctant to communicate confidently and actively – why? Not everyone is aware of the sector’s strengths.
